Achievements of the Epsilon Sigma Chapter (Bowie State University)
1) Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Semaj Rashad, Card Scan Man
Semaj Rashad received the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2008 Celebrating Minority Business Dinner Gala. The award was for Semaj’s development of his business, Card Scan Man. Card Scan Man is a unique business card contact manager and entry system that maintains and aggregates important information from new contact’s business cards. Additionally, he designs and maintains professional e-newsletters for businesses, annual conferences, and other professional business entities. This black tie event is especially designed to recognize the contributions and achievements of minority businesses in Maryland and the surrounding areas.
2) Thurgood Marshall College Fund 2008 Leadership Institute
Semaj Rashad and Lionel Gross-Bey were recently accepted to attend the highly competitive Thurgood Marshall College Fund 2008 Leadership Institute. The 8th Annual Leadership Institute Recruitment Conference & Career Fair is the premier recruitment conference for students attending public HBCUs. This four-day event provided attendees with the chance to participate in workshops and discussions with some of Americas leading corporate executives. The program is meant to enhance the scholars’ experience by helping them bridge their academic achievements with necessary and meaningful skills for the workplace. Scholars from the 47 member schools come together in New York City for an intensive program including workshops on career planning, interviewing skills, and resume writing, as well as financial and credit management workshops. The Institute prides itself in bringing together the “best of the best” for tomorrow’s workforce leadership.
