Grand Polemarch to Get First-Hand Updates on Kappa Chapter Expansion in New York and South Africa

(Philadelphia, PA) – October 16, 2008 – The 31st Grand Polemarch Dwayne M. Murray, Esq. enroute to South Africa to visit with members of the recently chartered chapters of Johannesburg-Pretoria and Cape Town-West Cape Alumni Chapters, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., will meet with the Northeastern Province Polemarch Paul Huggins and core members the leadership of New York City Metro Area Chapters and selected members of the petitioning Bronx Alumni Chapter to get a first hand update on the progress on the potential chapters development, as well as receive a ground-level briefing on various other potential Northeastern Province petition groups.

Brother Murray will hold a working meeting prior to his departure from John F. Kennedy International Airport to South Africa on Friday, October 16th, 2008 at Noon.  “Kappa Alpha Psi was founded because there was a societal need for its principles, “ Grand Polemarch Murray stated in announcing his travel itinerary. “If there is a need to be filled anywhere, in any community, Kappa should lead the way.”

The New York Area expansion status meeting will consist of detailed reports from representatives of the petition group, which will include community service projects, reclamation efforts, membership sustainability and their involvement in local and province activities.  To create a smooth transition if the charter is granted, Chapter leaders from New York Alumni, Brooklyn-Long Island, New Rochelle White Plains and Queens Alumni will attend as well to discuss how they can assist and support any new Chapter with its programs and progress.

It has been more than 15 years since a Chapter in the New York City Area has been chartered.  Due to New York City’s enormous coverage area and the high concentration of fraternity members living and working in the metropolitan area, the high demand for social services and volunteerism among the community is high and every Kappa hand will be needed.

Brother Murray hopes to use the suggestions and advice from his New York City meeting to aide the Brothers in South Africa to continue their historic achievements.  “In the midst of increasing concern of community needs, it will be essential that our Chapters in South Africa be strong enough to serve and expand its presence, “ Grand Polemarch stated.  Joining Murray on the South Africa excursion will be Solomon S. Bradley, Polemarch of the Southeastern Province, the province of the South Africa Chapters. While abroad, in addition to holding a Listening Tour in both locations, they will meet with several dignitaries and community organizations to discuss ways in which the fraternity may have a meaningful presence in the country.  Included will be a meeting with officials from the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) for a presentation on the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Africa.  They will also visit the Pretoria Middle School, which the Johannesburg-Pretoria Chapter has
officially adopted.

Brother Murray hopes to announce his “Listening Tour” schedule for the 2008-2009 fraternal year upon his return.  Brother Murray has met with hundreds of Brothers during his “Listening Tours,” which have helped shape his priorities for membership service enhancements for the next few years. He also encouraged Chapters to follow his tour example and continue to combine an aggressive reclamation program into their Chapter agendas.
