Kappa Alpha Psi Donates to Extreme Home Makeover Project

Philadelphia, PA, June 28, 2008 - Grand Polemarch Dwayne M. Murray, Esq. announced that Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., as part of its Social Action “Habitat for Humanity” extension, “is partnering with “Extreme Makeover, Home Edition” to extend goodwill to a family headed by a hero.”

According to Murray, “in our efforts to enhance the quality of life for all people, Kappa Alpha Psi has historically reached out to boys through our Guide Right Program, and young men through our Kappa League, bridging the gap to make a difference in their lives.” He said, “Over the past several years Kappa Alpha Psi has partnered with Habitat for Humanity, assisting in the building of homes and providing assistance to the families who occupy them. In 2008, Kappa Alpha Psi, as an extension to the “Habitat for Humanity” initiative, and as part of the Grand Chapter Meeting to be held in Washington, DC in 2009, are joining in saluting a family that will be featured on ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition,” not because of their celebrity, but because of their worthiness to be a part of our community outreach efforts.”

In making Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity a part of the lives of another family, Grand Polemarch Murray said, “We will especially provide opportunities for the boys in the family to participate in Kappa activities, including the Piney Woods, MS Kappa Kamp, the A-MAN,Inc. program in California geared to science and technology; and the various youth related activities in the Eastern Province of the Fraternity. In addition, we will offer such assistance as may be required to other members of the family.”

Each episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is self-contained and features a race against time on a project that would ordinarily take at least four months to achieve, involving a team of designers, contractors and several hundred workers who have just seven days to totally rebuild an entire house — every single room, plus the exterior and landscaping.

The lives of the lucky families are forever changed when they learn that they’ve been selected to have their home walls moved, their floors replaced and even their facades radically changed. The result should be a decorator’s delight...if it can be done in time.

Grand Polemarch Murray said, “Thanks to members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation, we will donate a 15 passenger Ford van to the family, which will be a contribution in assisting the family to be whole.” We come to this project after recent recognition by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as “Volunteer Group of the Year.” We see opportunities like this as an occasion to create inspiration in the lives of others.”

Kappa Alpha Psi moves to next level thinking and action.
