Kappa Alpha Psi Focuses On Training Tomorrow’s Leaders Today at
Undergraduate Leadership Institute Conference June 7th – 14th.

(Philadelphia, PA) – June 5th, 2008 – Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. announced the launch of its Undergraduate Leadership Institute which will focus on training its undergraduate members to dedicate themselves to community service through the core principles and objectives of the fraternity’s mission.  According to Grand Polemarch, Dwayne M. Murray, Esq., “this year’s Institute is planned to be the most dynamic and inspirational yet.”

The weeklong Undergraduate Leadership Institute (ULI) begins Saturday, June 7th in Marietta, GA and will concentrate each day on a vital tool the fraternity’s undergraduate members will need to become essential vessels in the cause of achievement for themselves, the fraternity and the broader community. “This is one of the most important initiatives the fraternity has,” André G. Early, Director of the Undergraduate Leadership Institute said in detailing the conference’s schedule.

Since its launch in 1996, the Undergraduate Leadership Institute has been a highly structured and intense leadership experience designed to increase undergraduates’ capacity to lead in multiple contexts in the fraternity, on campus and in their communities. Essential to the conference’s success has been small group discussions, large group lectures and case study analysis, which provide a rich learning environment for Brothers to reframe and reinforce their approach to leadership. These special sessions are highlighted through invited speakers and panelists, who complement the Institute by reinforcing the curriculum with practical examples based on their extensive leadership experiences and knowledge.

Each day of this year’s conference will focus on a theme to guide the curriculum, which incorporates four of the fraternity’s five objectives.  The fifth objective – to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual and moral welfare of members – is the primary objective that is woven throughout the entire seven-day seminar.

The pre-registered participation of this year’s conference signals it will be one of the most successful thus far: With 50 participants—including three national officers – Daniel P. Heard, Dameon D. Daniels, Marc H. Robinson, II; Junior Vice Polemarchs from eight provinces; new participants from all 12 provinces as well as the return of Beta Class Members Michael J.A. Davis (Junior Grand Vice Polemarch), J. Cory Locklear (Grand Lt. Strategus) and Gibran Jones (JVP – Northeastern Province) who will be serving as Junior Advisors.

“It is an encouraging sign that there is so much promise and potential exhibited by this year’s class, “ Brother Early said, “It is a good time to be a Kappa and from this ‘Gamma’ class, it looks like it will be that way for a long time.”
