Dwayne M. Murray, Esq: Open Letter to Membership
A Message From The Grand Polemarch...
The Grand Board of Directors has just returned from its scheduled meeting held in Atlanta, Ga. In conjunction with the Board’s meeting, the Atlanta Metro Area Chapters of Kappa conducted a “Charity Weekend.” The weekend included a charity golf tournament, silent auction, reclamation drive and masquerade ball. The purpose for the weekend of events was to raise money for Morris Brown College and the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. At the conclusion of the hard work and efforts of the local area Kappas, Brother Dr. Stanley Pritchett, Sr., President of Morris Brown College and John P. Moses, CEO of St. Jude Children’s Hospital each received donations of $10,000 to support their respective endeavors.
This was truly a “Creating Inspiration” moment for all in attendance. The Grand Board of Directors witnessed “One Kappa” in action. Our Brothers should be commended for their hard work and dedication exhibited towards the principles of Phi Nu Pi. This weekend answered our cry, “A Call to Service.”
On another note, I am proud of the leadership demonstrated by the Junior Grand Vice Polemarch, Brother Michael J.A.Davis, and the Collegiate Grand Board Members. Each are achieving personal goals they have set for themselves as they lead the financial literacy seminars in our Greeks Learning to Avoid Debt (GLAD) Program. Their goal is to conduct seminars on 100 college and university campuses prior to the opening of the first business session at the 79th Grand Chapter Meeting.
I want to say thank you to every chapter in the fraternity that helped Kappa become the recipient of the “Volunteer Organization of the Year Award” presented by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The Sunday of Hope, lead by Brother P. Jerry Siegel will help chart the future of the fraternity as we brand a positive and lasting image of “Service” to children battling chronic childhood diseases.
Have you registered for the 2009 Conclave? We are planning an extremely exciting convention. You do not want to miss it. “The Journey Home Begins in Washington, DC.”
