Alexandria/Fairfax Tour De Cure - Team Kappa

Team Kappa participated in the 2011 Nations Capitol Tour de Cure raising $20,000 to support the American Diabetes Association’s important research, information and advocacy efforts and its mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. The team consists of brothers from the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter, as well as brothers from the Eastern Province.  Team Kappa has participated in this event since 2009 and over the three years Team Kappa has raised over $55,000.  We ride for ourselves or to support a loved one dealing with this disease.  The team consists of 23 bike riders, Kappas, non-Kappa, family and friends, who take on the challenge of raising the minimum of $200 and prepare for their grueling bike rides of 33, 63 and 100 miles.  This event was held June 5, 2011 at the Reston Town center, in Reston Virginia. People took part in a fun, exciting, healthy event for the whole family. Every rider counted, and everyone was welcomed to join our team! In 2010 we raised over $24,000 to Help Stop Diabetes.

Officers Reports

Alumni Chapter Officers Reports for the 2011-2012 fraternal year were due on June 30, 2011. Undergraduate Chapter Officers Reports for the 2011-2012 fraternal year are due on October 30, 2011. For your convenience, a copy of the Collegiate and Alumni Officers Report Form is on the Eastern Province Web site, in the Brothers Only Area.  If you miss your deadline, you are required to submit a $25 late fee to International Headquarters.

First Public Appearance by the 32nd Grand Polemarch

Grand Polemarch and fraternity members at Omega Public Meeting

On Thursday July 28 2011, Grand Polemarch William “Randy” Bates, Jr. Esq. made his first public appearance as Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. at the Public Meeting for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Centennial Conclave in Washington, DC.  The Eastern Province supported the Grand Polemarch with nearly 140 Brothers in attendance to support the newly elected Leader.  Grand Polemarch Bates delivered an encouraging message to the host fraternity and the Divine Nine. Clearly, the brothers in attendance were the largest Fraternity represented (including the host Fraternity)!

Metropolitan Kappa Youth Foundation Urban Golf Initiative

The Metropolitan Kappa Youth Foundation, Inc. exists as the philanthropic arm of the Silver Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The Urban Golf Initiative is aligned with the Michelle Obama “Let’s Move” Health Initiative designed to fight childhood obesity. Kappa Leaguers traveled to Olney Driving Range to participate in workshops including: sports conditioning, injury awareness, and golf lessons from professionals at the golf range. The Urban Golf Initiative includes five sessions throughout the summer and welcomes male and female participants. Twenty-fve Kappa Leaguers and Brothers were in attendance.
